Garden & Greenhouse Product Review – GreenBroz Automated Harvesting Solutions

Posted May 1st, 2017 by Eric Hopper in

It is not very often that a company comes along and offers a complete solution to horticulturists. It is rare, but that is exactly what GreenBroz, Inc., from San Diego, CA, has done with its innovative product line designed for step-by-step harvest automation. Harvesting can be a time consuming and costly venture for some growers. Hiring additional workers to help with the harvest can cut deeply into profits. By automating a fair portion of the harvesting process, a horticulturist can drastically reduce the amount of time and labor required.

Automation equipment can also eliminate the need for additional workers. The harvest automation equipment offered by GreenBroz reduces the workload throughout the entire harvest process. Each “stage” of the harvest process is more efficient and effective when using the corresponding GreenBroz harvest automation product. GreenBroz is the first (and only) company to offer horticulturists a complete, step-by-step harvest solution. After the flowers are hung and dried, there are three steps of the harvest process remaining: de-stemming, trimming and extracting essential oils.

Step 1 – De-stemming

After the flowers have dried completely, they will need to be removed from the stem prior to the final trimming. GreenBroz’s CannaGin 215 De-stemmer is an automatic de-stemmer. That’s right; this machine automatically removes dried flowers from the stem. The CannaGin is actually named after the cotton gin, the machine that separates cotton fibers from their seeds. This simple-to-operate machine contains four stem guides and allows one or two operators to process up to four stems at a time. In other words, the CannaGin is designed to drastically reduce the amount of time needed to de-stem the flowers before trimming. In fact, the CannaGin can achieve the same results as hand de-stemming, but in 1/4 the amount of time.

The CannaGin is constructed of HDPE (which means it won’t harbor microbial or bacterial growth) and food-grade stainless steel. Like all GreenBroz products, the CannaGin is proudly made in the United States of America. In addition to the American craftsmanship and high quality materials, the CannaGin has multiple features which make this tool user-friendly and safe to operate. A digital display shows the revolutions per minute. The revolutions can be adjusted with the speed dial and range from 1-80 revolutions per minute. The forward/reverse switch controls the direction of the whisper-quiet 25 watt motor. There is also an operate switch to toggle between “stand by” and “run” (the machine only operates in the “run” position) and an emergency stop switch for added safety. The CannaGin can be cleaned and ready for the next harvest in less than five minutes; a feature many horticulturists will appreciate. The CannaGin also comes compete with a one year manufacturer’s warranty.

Step 2 – Trimming

After the flowers have been de-stemmed, they are ready to be trimmed. The GreenBroz 215 Standard Dry Trimmer is designed to increase the consistency and efficiency of the trimming process by gently, quickly, and quietly mimicking the act of hand trimming. This machine is capable of processing 2-4 pounds of plant material per hour which makes it quite the workhorse. Considering the average time to trim a pound of dried flowers by hand is usually around four hours, the 215 Standard Dry Trimmer is a valuable tool for just about any gardener.

What makes GreenBroz Trimmers so special is the patented design which gently rolls the flowers and creates manicured flowers that retain their curves and unique shape. The patented process also preserves a high percentage of the essential oils found on both the flowers and the trim material. This enables a horticulturist to also use the trim material for making essential oil extracts. As with the CannaGin De-stemmer, the housing of the 215 Standard Dry Trimmer is made from HDPE and the metal used is all food-grade stainless steel. The whisper-quiet motor operates on only 25 watts of power and turns the blade at 20 revolutions a minute. The entire unit weighs in at 35 pounds, making it easily portable. Clean up takes only 5-10 minutes and the machine comes with a one year manufacturer’s warranty. GreenBroz even supplies its own line of machine oil for cleaning and lubricating the GreenBroz Dry Trimmer.

Trimmer for Commercial Gardens

GreenBroz’s 420 Commercial Dry Trimmer is the go-to trimmer for serious cultivators. This machine can process a whopping 8-12 pounds of plant material per hour. Like the 215 Standard Dry Trimmer, the patented design allows for gentle rolling of the flowers which maintains a higher overall quality. Many horticulturists have avoided using trimming machines because of the damage they inflict on the flower’s essential oils. This damage, in turn, reduces the quality and the marketability of the final product and potential extracts. The 420 Commercial Dry Trimmer will not damage quality during the trimming process and will also help the cultivator achieve larger profits by reducing labor costs. The damage done by competitor trimming machines is not limited to the flower material; the valuable trim material is also damaged. GreenBroz trimmers protect the quality of both the flowers and the trim material so the highest percentage of valuable essential oils will be retained.

Step 3 – Essential Oil Extraction

When it comes to essential oil extracts, the GreenBroz Alchemist 215 and the Alchemist 420 have a horticulturist’s needs covered. These devices are dry-sift, solvent-free essential oil extractors that can be operated as stand-alone units or with the addition of dry ice. After the dried flowers are run through a trimmer, the left over trim material can be put in the final machine in the series of GreenBroz automated harvest machines: the Alchemist 215 or the Alchemist 420.

As to be expected from GreenBroz, these units are made from the same high quality HDPE material and food-grade stainless steel as its other products. The 130 micron screen separates the essential oils from the plant material as the 25 watt whisper-quiet motor rotates the holding chamber. The adjustable timer gives a gardener even more control as he or she learns how long to process each individual plant variety. The essential oils drop into an essential oil collection tray for easy removal. The GreenBroz Alchemist 420 is the large-scale version of the Alchemist 215. In other words, the Alchemist 420 is built to extract essential oils from large quantities of trim material. Both of the units clean up in less than 10 minutes and come complete with a one year manufacturer’s warranty.

An Overview of the Company

GreenBroz, Inc. was officially founded in 2013 and is headquartered in San Diego, CA. It is committed to leading the gardening industry in automated harvesting solutions. GreenBroz hopes to help cultivators realize their own versions of the American dream through fine American craftsmanship, commitment to detail and outstanding customer service. The quality of the finished product is always the number one priority for the folks at GreenBroz, Inc. and that is obvious when looking at their line of harvest automation products.

Word of Greenbroz’s dry trimmers spread quickly among horticulturists because of their speed, quiet operation and ability to retain quality. These factors are what led to the company’s original tag line, “Gentle. Quick. Quiet.”. Gentle equates to higher quality because the flower material will not be damaged. Quick equates to reduced labor costs and a higher return on investment. Quiet equates to additional comfort for the user. All in all, GreenBroz’s harvest automation products are the cream of the crop (pun intended) and will continue to set the bar for the rest of the gardening industry.
